Mike Thomas: CAD Management When You Do Not Have The Time (Two Part Series)
From Mike's Autodesk University Profile: Mike spent the first half of his career in the Autodesk channel working for a re-seller as an Application Specialist; currently the Technical Services Manager at Prairie Machine, a mining equipment manufacturer. Reporting to the general manager, Mike is responsible for overseeing the company's technical operations and strategic technical growth. His primary duties include the ongoing support of critical computer applications and the interactions between departments.
Mike is a fellow Autodesk Expert Elite Member and veteran Autodesk University presenter (17 AU presentations - link to Mike's AU Profile). I have known Mike for many years now (I took a bunch of AutoCAD-based training from Mike back when I was employed with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways 1999-2007). Actually it was Mike that suggested/pushed me into submitting class proposals to present at AU, which has been a very rewarding experience to say the least - thanks Mike. You can follow Mike on Twitter @aurbis and also on the blog Design and Motion.
This 'two-part' Autodesk University class presentation (from AU2018 and 19) includes videos and handouts which are available to access/download through the Autodesk University site - links provided below. I attended both of these classes in-person during AU, which were very enlightening, enjoyable and very beneficial regarding CAD Management tools and tactics, many of which I currently leverage today!
Part 1 Description: You now have the responsibility to manage CAD within your department and/or organization, but your job title does not include CAD manager. You do not or cannot dedicate your time full time to this task. So how do you do this? We will use my transition from re-seller to mining equipment manufacturer in an examination of how to get buy-in from management, how to get participation by the users (and your peers), where to start, and how to proceed. Let us talk standards, processes, procedures, training, CAD, management, and continual leadership. Key learning include:
